Lactoferrin, what is it and why is it beneficial?
What is Lactoferrin?
Lactoferrin is an important iron binding protein which plays an important role in regulating the immune system. It can be found naturally in humans as well as cows milk and is found in larger quantities in colostrum.
Lactoferrin is produced by the mammary glands during the later stages of pregnancy as well as the beginning of breast milk production. The body does this in order to provide immune system protection to the baby.
Why is it beneficial?
Due to this iron bearing property, Lactoferrin assists in the absorption of iron in the body as well as depriving harmful bacteria of iron. As this is the case, it helps to rid the body of bacteria, viruses and fungi.
With such benefits, Lactoferrin is extremely beneficial for children and mothers as it boosts the immune system strength and helps fight off potential health risks. This is why we have included this powerful protein in both our Junior and Pregnancy formulas.
